This natural product has soon become my favorite. The healthy glow on my skin is due to weekly face masks of manuka honey. I will forever keep a bottle in my bathroom cabinet. I knew about the high powers of regular raw honey, but manuka honey is something out of this world. It is a super-honey, and my skin has fallen in love, just on the first touch. I am always researching on ways to keep my skin looking naturally beautiful and with little makeup, or preferably with no makeup at all.

Years ago, I was guilty of wearing makeup every single day, to cover up my unhealthy habits of bad eating and lack of sleep. I do not want to spend time covering and contouring my face with makeup to hide imperfections. –

Nowadays, the beauty of my skin comes from the organic food I eat -no thank you GMOs- but also from the natural products I use. I spend hours on research, before buying a new natural product. I try to avoid toxic ingredients.

The rule is, that if I cannot eat it, then the chances are, that it might be bad for my skin as well. Isn’t my skin my biggest organ? I mean, it feels fantastic to achieve naturally healthy glowing skin. Especially, with a wonder from mother nature as manuka honey, which corrects, repairs and continually improves my skin. manuka honeyAfter researching and reading some of my favorite holistic beauty magazines, I discovered about Manuka Honey. I asked friends and family, and very few knew or used manuka.  A friend confessed that she was allergic to honey, so she would not try it. Not to be used by someone with sensitive skin or allergic to honey. Manuka is a potent honey, with high pollen count. It is Mother Nature at its best. Therefore, not every skin type can tolerate this honey.

To be honest, I was skeptical, plus the price is higher than regular raw honey. However, I discovered that manuka honey has four times the minerals of natural flower honey, and is considered a perfect and beneficial natural skin care product. honeyHere is why Manuka Honey is excellent:

Manuka honey comes from the bees at New Zealand, feeding themselves on the native manuka bush. An antifungal and antibacterial tea tree. Part of the reason, why this honey has so many remarkable benefits. The real manuka honey is raw, unheated and has higher therapeutic properties than regular honey. Reading labels at the moment of purchase is essential to obtain all the advantages.

The Unique Manuka Factor (UMF):

UMF is a rating used to measure the manuka honey concerning the amount of methylglyoxal. The test usually runs from a score of 5 to 20. A good Manuka honey needs to reach a rating of a 12 minimum for significant benefits.

Manuka honey needs to be raw to work better. The difference is that natural honey has not been processed, heated, or pasteurized, which usually makes it lose a lot of the beneficial nutrients when exposed to heat. This honey keeps its vitamin’s and

Skin Benefits of Manuka Honey

Brighter and Younger Skin:

It is a natural solution to make the skin radiant. Manuka honey protects against radical damages. Moisturizes and smooth skin. It helps with better moisture absorption. Also, it is full of antioxidants. Here is my favorite version.

Treat skin infections and acne. It is an anti-inflammatory. Balance the skin’s pH balance. Contain amino acid. Slough away dead skin. It helps keep pores clear. Fight the acne bacteria from not coming back.

It inhibits a group of enzymes that destroy collagen. Full of amino acids. Produce healthy collagen for a healthy, firm and youthful-looking skin. Also, helps in the healing of scars.

There are many versions of the market claiming to be original, but the critical ingredient is pollen count quality. I did not go for the best option due to how expensive that was. The price tag was making me forget about trying manuka, honey. Thankfully, I found 100% Raw Manuka Honey K Factor 12 with the key ingredients to enjoying the benefits: 100% raw, unpasteurized honey, Kfactor 12 (means higher Manuka pollen count), coming from New Zealand and Non-GMO. Note: if you have a sweet tooth like me, don’t try this honey. I mean, I ate the first bottle in a couple of days, because I could not stop on how freaking delicious, it tastes. The plan was one spoon to eat. The other spoon to create a facial mask. However, I treated myself with an extra spoon to eat, and then there was no honey for facial masks. Be stronger than me, and obediently use it on your skin only. manuka honeyMy Weekly Manuka Honey Face Masks

I start with cleansed skin. I have several ways to use manuka honey as a facial mask. My smooth and gentle facial mask requires just honey on my face and to leave it for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Sometimes I mix it with a tiny drop of lavender to relax and combat stress while I repair my skin.
• Manuka honey
• Lavender oil

The second and most efficient manuka mask is when I combine lemon, brown sugar, turmeric and manuka honey:
• Lemon will brighten and clarify the skin.
• Brown sugar exfoliates and leaves the skin baby soft.
• Turmeric is a natural anti-aging,
• Manuka honey increases collagen, moisturizes and repairs the skin.
I do not have sensitive skin, nor I am allergic to honey. Therefore, I could leave this mask for a minimum of 30 minutes. Then wash off with warm water. Once dry I use argan oil for a little

During workdays -or on very stressful days- I use a small dab of manuka honey before bedtime for five minutes, then wash it off and add my regular organic oils and serum all over my face, neck, and breasts.
• Manuka honey
• Organic and serum oils mix: argan, vitamin E, Castor oil, coconut oil, almond oil and shea butter.

After witnessing the incredible results on my skin, I could not be happier. The skin benefits of Manuka honey will be one of those beauty secrets that I will extend to my future generation.

Have you tried Manuka honey before, what do you think? I know it has tons of medical benefits as well and I am looking forward to learning more about its many properties.

  1. Hi Wendy. This is a very interesting article. I have tried manuka honey before but it messed up the pH of my skin and I ended getting more spots. Maybe the brand I tried was a poor one. Maybe I should implement it slowly in my daily routing rather than applying in one go straight away.

    • Hi! It could be strong on sensitive skin. Give it a try one more time and let me know how that went. The first time I tried the mask, I had a small rash on a cheek, but once the skin got used to the product, then it never happened again. It is a great product. Hand in hand with expensive cosmetics.

  2. Your 1st quote though, says everything! I’m trying to get my skin back to a healthier place where I’m not having “to do” as much to it and wear my skin more natural. I had no idea about all the benefits of applying honey to the skin. I am def trying the mask!

    • I’m glad you will try it. Just make sure that you are not sensible to honey. Manuka honey has a high pollen count. Test it on another part of your body before applying the mask on your face. Let me know what you think of it because I love it!

I remember when my Relative fell down the stairs and had a very bad wound on his leg, the Nurse gave him manuka honey and gauze to put on every day… there was no scarring left at the end and it healed quickly!
